What is the IELTS exam?

The International English Language Testing System(IELTS) is a standardized English proficiency test that can be used for entry into English-speaking universities or as part of visa requirements. IELTS is jointly owned by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, and Cambridge English. Over 10,000 organizations worldwide accept IELTS as proof of language ability.

The IELTS exam is evaluated on the skills of listening, reading, writing, and speaking. It consists of 40 questions in listening divided into 4 sections, 40 questions in reading categorized into 3 passages, two questions in writing and 3 parts questions in speaking The IELTS format includes consecutive tests of 3 modules(listening, reading, and writing)in a day and a speaking test is done the other day. The IELTS exam is graded on a scale of 1-9. The results are published within 2 weeks from the exam date as it is checked by humans.

IELTS Exam Duration

The duration of the exam is 2 hours 40 minutes consists of 40 minutes of the listening test, 60 minutes of a reading test, and 60 minutes of a writing test in a day and a speaking test is done the other day which takes around 10-15 minutes.

What is the PTE exam?

Pearson Language Test is the new English proficiency test that was launched by the UK in 2009. Like IELTS it has 3 parts: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. PTE academics are only applicable to those students who are applying to study abroad. Even though PTE is still relatively new it is accepted by most around the globe. United States of America (USA), United Kingdom (UK), Canada, Australia, Germany, New Zealand, and France are some of the leading countries to accept PTE. However, one should do some research on the requirements before taking classes.

PTE Format

PTE Exam format includes 20 different questions which test Speaking & Writing skills, Reading skills, and Listening skills. The exams are evaluated via AI so the results are published within 48 hours. The maximum score in PTE is 90 points. There will be individual scoring for each module. One can register for the PTE exam online on the available dates.

PTE Exam Duration

The exam duration is 3 hours including 54 – 67 minutes of speaking and writing, 29 – 30 minutes of reading, and 30 – 43 minutes of listening.

IELTS Vs. PTE Which One is Easier?

  1. Comparatively, although having some drawbacks, if you are an introvert and have problems having face-to-face interaction then PTE is a better option for you. However, IELTS has a better speaking qualification test so if you have better vocabulary then you could achieve more points.
  2. If you are more used to the computer then PTE could hold an advantage.
  • IELTS has easy availability of dates but PTE dates can be found 2-3 months after. So, if you want to apply for earlier dates IELTS can be done.
